Anthony Joshua car crash: Tributes pour in as boxer's team members die in fatal accident

While Anthony Joshua escaped with minor injuries, two of his friends and teammates, Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami, died in a car accident on Monday in Nigeria.

Boxer Anthony Joshua was injured and two of his team members were killed in a fatal car accident near Lagos in Nigeria. Joshua’s car rammed into a stationary truck on on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The two-time heavyweight champion was hospitalised after the accident but remains stable and conscious. He did not require emergency medical help, according to the authorities.

Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami, two of Joshua’s close friends and members of his team were unfortunately killed. “They’ve been with him, if not from the start, at least very early on. Latz (Ayodele) is AJ’s personal trainer and Sina is his strength and conditioning man. They are with him all the time,” BBC quoted boxing expert Steve Bunce as saying.

The boxer’s promoters Matchroom offered their “deepest condolences and prayers” for the deceased.

“Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected - and we ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time,” Matchroom said.

Tributes pour in after Joshua’s car crash

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, who was beaten by Joshua in a recent boxing clash , took to X to express his condolences.

“Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident,” Paul wrote.

“RIP Sina Ghami and Kevin ‘Latif / Latz’ Ayodele. My thoughts and prayers are with their families and friends and AJ,” Paul added in a later post.

British boxer Chris Eubank Jr said the deceased were two very good men. “Thank god our heavyweight champ survived that horrible car crash. And pray for the two fallen soldiers Latz & Sina & their families. I knew both, they were genuinely good men. Rest in Peace boys,” Eubank said.

Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn said: “With the heaviest of hearts. Two great men. Rest in eternal peace Sina and Latz. My thoughts and deepest prayers are with everyone.”

Another British boxer Shannon Courtenay also offered his condeleves: “RIP Sina and Latz, two good guys. Last week we’re all having fun in Miami and today you’re gone, life really is too short. May the Lord look over their loved ones during this awful time.”
