Israel recognises Somaliland: Why India should follow suit
Israel’s recognition of Somaliland marks a significant diplomatic shift, highlighting the region’s readiness for formal independence. The article argues that India should follow suit to counter China’s growing influence in the Horn of Africa and secure strategic access to Africa and Ethiopia, its second-most populous country. Somaliland, largely peaceful and self-governing for over three decades, offers a stable alternative to chaotic neighbors like Somalia and Eritrea. By opening an embassy, India can reinforce its presence in the Indian Ocean, protect trade routes, and assert its autonomy in global geopolitics. Recognition would strengthen regional stability and affirm India’s proactive foreign policy.
