BJP’s victory necessary to ensure continued development of state, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday said the BJP’s victory in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls is necessary to ensure that the state’s journey on the path of development does not stop.

Taking a jibe at the Opposition, he said that dynasts who only try to fill their ’tijori’ (vault) can never fulfill the dreams of the poor.

Addressing an election meeting in Jaunpur, he claimed that voting in the state so far has confirmed the victory of the BJP alliance.

In the sixth phase of polling being held on Thursday, the votes are being cast in favour of the BJP, the prime minister told the meeting.

“The BJP’s victory in the assembly elections is necessary because Uttar Pradesh is moving on the path of development and it should not stop now,” Modi said.

Cong rivals try to divide society on caste, religious lines; ignore people’s issues: Priyanka

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Thursday accused rival parties of trying to divide people on the lines of caste and religion, and ignoring their problems like inflation and unemployment.

Targeting the ruling BJP, she said it is the government’s duty to mitigate problems of the public but in Uttar Pradesh, the issue of stray cattle was created by the government’s policies.

Addressing a public meeting in Sonbhadra, Vadra said, “The elections are a time (for the public) to gauge which party should be brought to power to serve the people for the next five years. However, parties like BJP, BSP and Samajwadi Party try to divide society on lines of caste and religion. Because of this, the actual problems of people like inflation, lack of jobs and lack of amenities are neglected.”

“The biggest strength in a democracy is vote, which can make or destroy your future. Voters need to be aware and vote for people who are ready to work for you round the clock,” she said.

BJP is ’losing’ in UP, says Mamata while campaigning for SP

Describing herself as a “fighter”, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that she was attacked by BJP workers after she arrived for campaigning in Uttar Pradesh in support of the Samajwadi Party.

“I was coming from the airport yesterday and going to the (Dashashwamedh) ghat. Midway, some BJP workers, who have nothing in their brain except violence, stopped my vehicle. They hit my car, pushed me and told me to go back,” Banerjee claimed.

“It was then that I thought, they are going out (of power). They are completely gone, their defeat is imminent,” the Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief said.

Banerjee said she was in Uttar Pradesh for a political meeting and wondered why the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was so bothered about it.

“I am not a coward, I am a fighter. I have fought for a long time. The CPM attacked me in the past, I was attacked with sticks and shots were fired at me several times in the past. But I never bowed down,” she added.

She said if her coming to Uttar Pradesh once can ensure BJP’s defeat, she would come to the state a thousand times.

“It’s not so easy, Khela hoga,” Banerjee said, referring to the Hindi variation of the Bangla phrase which was the poll anthem of the TMC in West Bengal elections last year in which it defeated the BJP.

Have united with Akhilesh to ensure BJP’s ouster from UP, says Shivpal Yadav

Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party chief Shivpal Yadav on Thursday said he has united with the Samajwadi Party president and his nephew Akhilesh Yadav to ensure the ouster of the BJP government in the Uttar Pradesh assembly election.

Speaking at a joint rally of SP alliance parties in Varanasi on Thursday, Yadav said the chacha-bhatija (uncle-nephew) have come together in view of the demand from the people of the state.

“When I had started touring the state, there was only one demand from you all (people) that ‘chacha-bhatija’ should unite and only then BJP government in UP can be removed. Friends, I agreed to your call. Akhilesh and I are united and now you (people) have to make the decision by removing the BJP from the state on March 10 through your vote,” Yadav said.

The former UP minister said he has asked all his supporters to ensure the rout of the BJP in this assembly election and ensure victory of the alliance candidate from all seats.

The people of the state have resolved that nobody can stop Akhilesh Yadav from becoming the chief minister of UP as leader of this alliance. Once he becomes the CM, the state’s development would be ensured and those who have looted UP in last five years will be eliminated from the state, Yadav added.

BJP to win large number of seats under PM Modi’s leadership, says Yogi Adityanath. He also said the UP Assembly elections have reached a decisive stage.

Voting for the sixth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls began at 7 am on Thursday sealing the fate of political heavyweights such as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Congress’ Ajay Kumar Lallu and Samajwadi Party’s Swami Prasad Maurya.

With voting for 292 out of 403 Assembly seats over, the polling has now moved to the Purvanchal region of the state where 111 seats are up for grabs.

Of the remaining constituencies, 57 seats, spread across 10 districts, will go to the polls on Thursday and 54 in the final phase on March 10.

The districts where polling is to be held on Thursday are Ambedkarnagar, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Maharajganj, Gorakhpur, Kushinagar, Deoria and Ballia.

These 57 Assembly segments, of which 11 are reserved, are crucial for the BJP. In the 2017 Assembly polls, it had won 46 of these seats.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi rebutted by saying the BJP was only against her family, which has not bowed down to the saffron party.
