The exit polls for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election — released on Friday — had thrown up disparate numbers that pointed to a nail-biter of a contest. And from the look of things, the preview did the main event justice, with the Congress and BJP trading leads ever since counting began at 8 am on Tuesday morning. Within an hour of counting, the BJP was off and running with 29 leads to the Congress’ 18, and by 9.30 am, the saffron party was ahead in 76 seats. By this point, the Congress too was making up ground quickly and had jumped ahead at 10 am.
