The Accidental Prime Minister has faced its share of issues ever since the release of the trailer. The makers have stood their grounds with regard to the content of the film. Recently, Anupam Kher (who plays former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh) was joined by Akshaye Khanna in defending The Accidental Prime Minister.

The Accidental Prime Minister movie Anupam Kher as Manmohan Singh.

Khanna, who essays the role of Sanjay Baru in the film, said in a recent interview that there would always be opposition when a film is made based on authentic facts, real people and events. “But at the end of the day, it’s just a film, not an earthquake or a Tsunami, so let us not get too carried away,” added the actor.

He stated how the facts depicted in The Accidental Prime Minister have already been in the public domain for years. He was sure that audiences would understand that the makers have attempted to make a mature film on political incidents that were public knowledge.

Kher also spoke about the film , stating that though cinema and politics cannot be separated, a film could not possibly affect the voting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. “When the audience is going to the theatre to watch a film, they are regular cine-goers and movie lovers. They are not entering the hall as a voter,” said Kher.

Recently, a case was filed against Kher and others associated with The Accidental Prime Minister in a Bihar court on 2 January for damaging the image of some top politicians.

Besides Kher, who has essayed the role of Singh in the movie, others named in the complaint include Khanna, who plays Baru, the noted journalist and the chief media adviser to the former prime minister.
