Weather Report: North to foresee temperature drop, poor air quality; South expects a wet week

Twin cyclonic storms in the Indian Ocean remained away from the coast of India; the one in the Arabian Sea made a landfall over Oman, while Cyclone Hamoon in the Bay of Bengal re-curved due to an approaching westerly trough and made a landfall in Bangladesh. Earlier in the week, cyclone Hamoon intensified into a very severe cyclone (gusty winds going up to 65 knots). As per the Indian Meteorological Department, in the month of October, it was the first time since 2018 that a very severe cyclone formed in the Bay of Bengal. All India weather forecast till 5th November 2023 Northeast monsoon to activate and drench southern states Southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala are all set to experience first spell of active north east monsoon conditions in the upcoming week starting from 30th October, Under the influence of strong easterly winds from Bay of Bengal conditions are becoming favourable for a wet week with moderate to heavy rains in some of the key cities; Chennai, Coimbatore, Trivandrum, Kochi. Bangalore to experience overcast conditions with light rains, some more parts of south Karnataka and south Andhra Pradesh to witness monsoon showers till 5th November. Normal to above normal rains in the week will try to cover up some deficiency number from the existing -61% rainfall anomaly. North, central and east India to foresee further temperature drop and poor air quality It is the time of year when temperature drops are not very steep but are noticeable as minimum temperatures start to dip below 15°C in nearly 60% of the geographical area of the nation. Nights and mornings have a fair nip in the air. Along with cool weather comes the season of air pollution, which has become prevalent in the last few days. Reduced wind speed due to weak western disturbances over the Himalayas favours particulate matter to persist in the air rather than dispersing; the temperature inversion further accelerates it in the nights; hence, along with cool weather, poor air quality is in store for many cities in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal in the upcoming week, mainly Indo-Gangetic plains, to experience an air quality index in the category of poor to very poor across days with less chances of improvement. Weather conditions across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, and Tripura will stay completely dry across the week, with cool nights along with pleasant days. Warm days will not start subsiding as we head into November. The writer, better known as the Rohtak Weatherman, interprets and explains complex weather patterns.
