Just the other day, Argentina elected a far-Right politician Javier Milei with a robust mandate. That inflation was at 142.7 per cent in October and GDP is going to contract by 1.6 per cent did not deter the global Left and ‘liberals’ from being not just surprised by positively shocked by the news. India’s own Leftist economist Jayati Ghosh cautioned before the polls that Milei would be devastating for Argentina. The results have undoubtedly left her and her ilk devastated. But the loud Left and ‘liberal’ meltdown did not even get a chance to fall silent. Exit polls in the Dutch general elections, notorious for their accuracy, are indicating an unprecedented win for Geert Wilders’ Party for Freedom (PVV). This is going to trigger liberal meltdown 2.0, an unsettling version upgrade within 72 hours. The dramatic shows of denial aside, this should give the liberal order — one that once looked like some infallible human matrix but now lies tattered worldwide — another occasion to introspect on where it has gone so wrong. Given by its previous record, the liberal elite around the world — some of whom not just dream but supposedly act and invest in creating a New World Order by subverting nationalism — will flick away this occasion as well with disdain. They own the jets, they make or wreck weak governments and powerful corporations, they have the membership of the elite globalist club…why should they have to put up with political choices of the unwashed undesirables which stem out of their unique local realities and histories? UK, France, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Spain, Poland, Finland, Belgium, Greece, Austria, Sweden and now Netherlands…the rise of the Right has been irrepressible. In the US, a weak and war-weary Joe Biden may well be replaced by Donald Trump next year. While Argentina has voted far-Right, Brazil’s right wing Jair Bolsonaro breathes on Lula da Silva’s Leftist government after a violently contested election outcome. Canada’s woke Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s months in power may be fewer than the pronouns he enthusiastically endorses. What is behind the rise and rise of the Right across the West? There are broadly five reasons. First, the consequences of mindless immigration and cultural takeover are finally dawning on the Western psyche. Even the most bleeding-heart, pro-immigration liberals are at least privately aghast at the streets being taken over by violent mobs, The French riots in June-July and now the massive, angry, ISIS-flag-waving rallies in Western cities have made Europe and the Americas wonder whether cultural assimilation is at all possible when calls are going out from mosques that the final aim is Islam conquering the West and setting up Sharia rule. People are understanding the Islamist threat faster than politicians calculate the political gains from importing and appeasing, as reformist Imam Tawhidi famously said, “garbage that Muslim countries wanted to put in prison”. Which is why Italy put Giorgia Meloni in power, and France and Spain put Marine Le Pen and the Vox party respectively at a breathing distance from it. The second reason for the rise of the Right is wokeness and its accompanying assault on marriage, family, gender and traditions. From Ron DeSantis to Rishi Sunak, almost all conservative politicians are voicing citizens’ anxiety about the well-funded campaign to weaken societies as the Leftist media and academia keep the youth busy fighting wars over pronouns instead of defending their nations or cultures or societies. The third thing that irks people is that power seems to rest in people whom they have not elected or are unelectable. There is a growing, gnawing popular feeling that nations and society are being controlled by global elite networks and deep states from behind the scenes and politicians on stage are mere puppets. They fear that this shadowy elite like George Soros are out to erase local values and tradition, upend strong governments, prop up weak ones to control and exploit them. The fourth grouse is that of doublespeak. Those who claim to be ‘liberal’ turn out to be brazen autocrats; those who come to power championing peace turn out to be the biggest warmongers. Trudeau’s crushing of the peaceful truckers’ protest and Biden fighting proxy wars in Ukraine and Gaza are prime examples. The fifth reason for disenchantment with the Left or so-called centrists is terrible financial management. The Argentinian economy has been in free-fall. Biden put the American economy in recession. Canada under Trudeau is hurting. The Leftist-socialist model eventually comes back to haunt the people with inflation and unemployment. All this is coming together as a lethal concoction.
