As the Jewish festival of Sukkot neared its end, Israel was struck by an unthinkable nightmare. Sirens shattered the dawn as thousands of Hamas militants initiated a multi-pronged attack from air, sea, and land. Missiles rained down on cities, chaos ensued, and countless lives were lost. Innocent citizens were taken hostage, and even a joyous music festival turned into a bloodbath. The brutality was beyond imagination. The visuals provided an unfiltered glimpse into the barbarity of those fighting for the Palestinian cause, leaving us shaken to our core. In one particularly disturbing video, an Israeli woman was shown in a state of utter vulnerability. She was loaded onto the back of a mini-truck by Hamas terrorists. The woman, barely covered in clothes, bore the visible marks of brutality, with her face seemingly mutilated. The true extent of her suffering remains unclear in the video, a grim uncertainty that casts a dark shadow over the scene. As the truck slowly moves, a man’s despicable act of spitting on the woman further underscores the depths of inhumanity to which some have descended. Another video revealed the agonising ordeal of another Israeli woman, who was forcibly dragged out of the trunk of a car. Her clothing bore stains of blood, an ominous testament to the horrors she had endured. The distress in her eyes was palpable. As the world grappled with the implications of these shocking visuals, other videos emerged, depicting Palestinians celebrating the attacks and Hamas terrorists mercilessly opening fire within an Israeli town. These distressing events painted a grim picture, further underlining the urgency of the situation and the need for peace, compassion, and the preservation of innocent lives. Among the casualties were many women, children, and the elderly, their lives tragically cut short. Babies, who never had the chance to see this world, were among the innocent victims. Their potential, their laughter, and their dreams were stolen from them in an instant. It is heart-wrenching to witness the horrors unfolding across the world, and it’s especially painful to see some from our own country supporting terrorism. At this point, it appears that their allegiance to terror and political affiliation outweighs all else. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder that our collective condemnation of such terror transcends politics. In the face of unspeakable horror, our support must be firmly rooted in humanity, resolutely rejecting terrorism and its atrocities. But, they are supporting Hamas terror attack on Israel in the name of resistance and liberation. Their arguments, often bereft of logic, are an attempt to rationalise the actions of groups like Hamas. It’s imperative that we counter these narratives, word by word, and expose the dubious nature of their stance. Behold the leftists and Islamists, skilled in the art of rhetoric, whose words resemble a dance with the devil rather than a sincere denunciation of terror. Quite the dramatic performance, I must say. Sharjeel Usmani, former Aligarh Muslim University student leader and columnist, is also a great classifier of Indians, who assumes everyone dances to the tune of opposing Muslims. It’s as if the entire world revolves around his worldview. The maestro of division. His assertion that Indians support Israel simply as a knee-jerk reaction to what Muslims support, is reductionist and divisive. Many Indians have diverse and nuanced perspectives on international conflicts, and it’s a disservice to their intelligence to generalise their motivations. We’re not blind to unsee atrocities. Not everything should be minced through the lens of victimisation. Samiullah Khan, a journalist and the grand maestro of absolutes, who perceives support for Israel as a direct endorsement of illegal occupation. The emperor of over-simplification. Assuming that supporting Israel is a green light for illegal occupation and terrorism is like trying to fit a camel through the eye of a needle. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a Rubik’s Cube of complexity and Palestinian actions with the dead and captured have obliterated chances of a successful diplomatic case. The videos from Israel starkly frame the choice: barbarism or fundamental civility. For those with a shred of humanity, the decision is crystal clear. We’re looking for that elusive peace and justice solution. And then we have Ali Sohrab, a muslim activist, the champion of fake news, who, in a bizarre twist, finds himself defending terrorists parading a woman’s dead body. Truly, a Nobel laureate in contortionism. He went to an extent to support Hamas that he spread fake news that the German woman who was paraded by the Hamas terrorists was a man! Your support for Hamas, to the point of spreading fake news, is a disheartening firework show in a dark night! It just obscures the facts. And let’s not forget Irena Akbar, a former journalist also an acrobat of mental gymnastics, who insists on debating whether a woman was ‘fully naked’ while being paraded by terrorists. It’s as if the world’s priorities are neatly folded in her verbal somersaults. The depths to which you’ve stooped in your attempt to prove a point are deeply unsettling. To even consider rationalising the horrors suffered by Shani Louk, a woman who was paraded naked, is an affront to the basic principles of humanity. While freedom of speech is a fundamental right, it should never be used to justify or trivialize the suffering of others. Shani Louk’s ordeal is not a subject for mental gymnastics or insensitive speculations about her clothing choices. Your attempt to draw parallels between her tragic fate and unrelated matters, such as the freedom of Iranian women, is not just misplaced; it’s offensive. The fact that her almost-naked body was publicly displayed, and she was subjected to such dehumanising treatment, should stir universal outrage, regardless of one’s beliefs or background. It’s Disturbing! Shani Louk deserves more than justifications; she deserves our empathy, respect, and a heartfelt condemnation of the horrors she endured. In the face of such harrowing events, it’s indeed shameful that some journalists, Indian included, failed to verify facts and allowed themselves to be swept up by the tide of unverified information. There’s already enough cruelty in this world; there’s no need to add more by spreading false narratives. It raises the poignant question: What kind of human are you when, in the face of such horrifying reports, there’s no condemnation, no remorse? Parents and children have to endure the agony of witnessing their family members die in the most brutal manner, and yet, there’s an attempt to justify rather than condemn. Also, amidst this circus of convoluted justifications, let’s not lose sight of the heart-wrenching tragedy unfolding in Israel. While they perform their verbal acrobatics on the tightrope of political correctness, innocent lives are tragically lost, and the horror only deepens. In a world where empathy, rationality, and the sanctity of human life should reign supreme, a sane, rational human being would never find justification in the indiscriminate killing of any civilian population, be it Israeli or Palestinian. Especially when it comes to the most vulnerable, the children, such acts of violence become even more unforgivable. Let us not allow political allegiances or biases to obscure this fundamental truth: the value of human life knows no borders or boundaries. In a rational world, the defense of innocent lives should always take precedence over any ideology or agenda. As I pen these words, my heart aches, not as an Indian, not as a member of any political affiliation, but simply as a human being. I condemn the Hamas terror attack and the loss of innocent lives and children of this conflict on both sides of the divide in the strongest terms. It’s a tragedy that transcends borders, faiths, and political ideologies. Our hearts should weep at the deaths and horrors unfolding in Israel, for it is in our shared humanity that we find the strength to say, “Enough is enough.” The author is a final year LL.B student at O.P Jindal Global University and is a Bachelors in Global Affairs from the same university.
