“It’s complete mayhem. It’s a jungle out there. Man eating man.”
If you thought someone used these words to describe a warzone or a crime scene, you are in for a surprise. These are the words used by former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar to describe the road and traffic conditions in Mumbai.
Manjrekar on Monday launched a campaign on Twitter against violation of traffic rules called #LetsBehaveMumbai.
He also met Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to urge him to look into the issue in Mumbai. He also posted on Twitter that he had asked Fadnavis to make laws against traffic violations more strict and vigilant.

Manjrekar also posted other tweets using the hashtag and soon, other people and celebrities on Twitter began posting similar tweets.

Made a suggestion to CM @Dev_Fadnavis to have a bright broad yellow line at traffic junctions. Cars will not cross that line, come what may.

Car stopping at red light gets honked from behind. What does that say about us? #LetsBehaveMumbai

Manjekar also posted a video on YouTube about the issue. “The time has come for us to take a good look at ourselves, the way we behave on the roads, the impression we give to people who visit our city for the first time,” he said in the video. “If we as Mumbaiites cannot behave ourselves, maybe it’s time the law forced us to.”
The former cricketer’s campaign comes to light at a day when the Regional Transport Office (RTO) plans to make all bikers sign an indemnity bond , clearly stating that they would use helmets.
