Dhanteras is an important festival for the Hindu community and is celebrated with grandeur and enthusiasm all over the country. Also known as Dhantrayodashi, it marks the start of the five-day-long Diwali festivities. The special week begins on Dhanteras and ends on Bhaiya Dooj (26 October). Dhanteras is observed on the Trayodashi tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik, according to the Hindu calendar. According to Drik Panchang, this sacred festival of Dhanteras will be celebrated on 22 October (Saturday) this year. Dhanteras Shubh Muhurat 2022: Dhanteras puja is on 22 October. The puja muhurat is from 07:01 pm to 08:17 pm, as per Drik Panchang. The Trayodashi Tithi begins at 06:02 pm on 22 October and ends at 06:03 pm on 23 Oct 2022. Meanwhile, the Yama Deepam will be observed on 22 October (Saturday). The Pradosh Kaal will commence from 05:45 pm and end at 08:17 pm. The Vrishabha Kaal starts from 07:01 pm and ends at 08:56 pm. For the unversed, Yama Deepam is observed for the God of death - Yamaraj. Devotees believe that a small lamp should be lit outside their homes on Trayodashi Tithi to ward off the untimely death of any family member. This sacred ritual is known as Deepdan for Yamaraj. Dhanteras Puja Vidhi: On Dhanteras, people wake up early in the morning and offer prayers to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber. Scriptures state that on Dhanteras, Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean during the Samudra Manthan with a pot of gold in her hands. That is why devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi as a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Lord Dhanvantari is also worshipped and mantras are chanted on Dhanteras to seek his blessings.
