Mumbai fire Latest Updates: The firemen are facing trouble in dousing the fire because the blaze started at the top floor of the 33-floor-high sky-rise apartment building. Besides, the design of the facade of building is also creating problems because firefighters are unable to extend the ladders close enough to the building. The fire at the Beaumonde Towers in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi has spread to another corner. The local MLA from Shiv Sena said that the fire could not be doused because the equipment was only meant to reach the height up till the 18th floor. The MLA blamed the BMC for passing proposals for high-rise buildings, while it failed to upgrade the capacity of the Mumbai fire department. A resident of the B-Wing, 16th floor, who requested anonymity, told Firstpost that she got to know of the fire because she heard screams from the C-Wing. B-WIng is where the fire is happening. A major fire broke out in Beaumonde Towers in Mumbai’s Prabhadevi on Wednesday afternoon. No casualties have been reported so far. More than 90 residents were safely evacuated, fire department officials said. The fire, which broke out at around 2.15 pm was initially marked as a level-II but was soon upgraded to a Level III blaze. At least, 10 fire tenders are present at the spot. The fire broke out on the 33rd floor of the apartment in Appasaheb Marathe Marg in Prabhadevi locality in Worli. Five jumbo water tankers, two hydraulic platforms and an ambulance is on spot, reports have said. Reports have said that the concerned building is where actor Deepika Padukone lives. The PR team of the actor spoke to Firstpost and said, “Deepika Padukone lives on the 26th floor of Beaumonde and while the fire took place in the same wing as hers, it was on the 32nd floor. Deepika’s currently out for a brand shoot. Some of her staff members are at home.” The fire reportedly broke out on the 25th floor of the apartment. More details awaited.

Building security helped harrowed residents escape
The building’s security personnel helped the residents evacuate the tower that was on fire, while the fire department was called. The guards knocked on every door during the evacuation and led the residents down by the stairwell.
However, ward chairman Kishori Pednekar said that the security took 25 minutes to try and douse the fire themselves and only then called the fire engines
Firefighters face trouble in duosing fire due to fancy facade, height of building
A fire officer, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Firstpost that the glass and aluminum facade is drastically reducing the ventilation, which is making it difficult to douse the fire. He said that the fire officers at the top were also facing difficulty in resting the ladders too close to the building, because the facade is jutting out.
Chief fire officer says Shiv Sena leaders spreading rumours, department’s equipment can reach up to 30th floor
Chief Fire Officer Prabhat Rahangdale said the Shiv Sena MLA is lying and spreading rumours about the incident. He said that the fire department’s ladder can go up to the 30th floor easily.
Earlier, Shiv Sena MLA Sada Sarvankar had said that the fire department can only douse fires until the 18th floor. He blamed the department for giving NOC for a 33-storey building even when it was not equipped to tackle the height in case of a fire.
Fire department has no estimate of total height of building
Chief Fire Officer, Prabhat Rahangdale told Firstpost that the department doesn’t have the estimate of how tall the building is. He said that the keys of both the floors have just reached the firefighters, after which they will try and access the two floors.
Deepika Padukone tweets she is safe
Actor Deepika Padukone, who also owns an apartment in the same building, said she was safe. She also urged the people to pray for the firefighters who were battling the blaze at the 33-floor high-rise building.

BMC volunteer says high-rise caught fire twice before in construction phase
Dilip Yadav, a municipality volunteer, said that this was the third time the same building has caught fire. The high-rise was on fire twice before while it was still under the construction phase.

Rescue ops halted after fire spreads
Smoke has engulfed the top five floors of the building and the rescue operations have been halted for now as the fire tenders struggle to reach the height and access the floors that are ablaze.

The fire has just spread to the left side of the tower on the 33rd and 32nd floors. Apparently the hydraulic systems used to douse the fire, even with the help of ladders and extensions, can only reach till the 28th floor. The fire fighters were struggling to control the fire which has now spread on to the ceiling and flames could be seen blazing out of the top-left corner on the rear end of the building.
Local ward chairman blames ‘unskilled workers’ for delay in controlling fire
Ward chairman Kishori Pednekar told Firstpost that the fire is still blazing because of the lapses on the part of the building security. She said that unskilled staff went for the rescue operations initially, and the team tried to douse the fire for 25 minutes before calling up the fire department.

According to media reports, all residents from Beaumonde towers have been evacuated safely. Thefire broke out in the top floors of the B-wing of the plush high-rise residential building, however, residents from the A and C wing have also been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Residents in the C-wing started screaming when the fire broke out, which is how the residents in the B-wing found out about the incident. The fire could be spreading to the 29th floor. The fire first broke out on the 33rd floor of the Beaumonde Towers.

Fire broke out on 33rd floor
Reports say that the fire broke out on the 33rd floor of the building and the top two floors are badly affected. The Mumbai Police have said its staff and firefighting personnel are at the spot. “They are trying to do their best and douse the fire,” the Mumbai Police said on Twitter.
