Woman burnt alive by husband, in-laws for dowry in Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar: A 35-year-old woman was burnt alive by her husband and in-laws over dowry demands at Lachera village here, police said. The woman is identified as Nutan, police said, adding, according to an FIR filed by the victim’s father, her husband Sidharth and mother-in-law Chader Devi were harassing her for dowry. When the victim refused to oblige, they poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze on Wednesday, they said. A case has been registered against Sidharth and his mother who are currently absconding and the body has been sent for post-mortem.

In an another incident, a 30-year-old man committed suicide by setting himself on fire over a dispute with his wife at Barla village in the district. Rajkamal took the extreme step on Wednesday, police said, adding, the body has been sent for post-mortem.
