Swamy was the original complainant in the case as well. Swamy’s appeal against the high court verdict comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reportedly reached out to the former Tamil Nadu chief minister and extended his greetings on her acquittal. “Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Puratchi Thalaivi Amma (Revolutionary Leader-Amma) and extended his greetings,” an AIADMK release said. The Karnataka High Court on Monday had acquitted Jayalalithaa in the case paving the way for her to return as chief minister of Tamil Nadu again.
