Wife reveals a Pranab Mukherjee you didn't know

Whoever has seen Pranab Mukherjee in the seemingly endless TV interviews that followed after he won the presidential polls now knows a Mukherjee who is a far cry from the stoic, evasive, occasionally temperamental Finance Minister the country loved to take pot shots at. He is mostly discussing his tree climbing, school bunking days, laughing and managing to dazzle even the forever-disgruntled Arnab Goswami. [caption id=“attachment_389550” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Pranab Mukherjee is a caring husband.[/caption] So, when a Times of India report quotes his wife saying, they ‘don’t really indulge in small love talk’ and they ‘depend on each other wholeheartedly’, it’s almost worth going ‘aww’ - not something you have ever associated with our former Finance Minister. Asked what gift she would like to give him on his ‘D-Day’ (presumably, the swearing-in), Suvra Mukherjee, who has been married to Pranab Mukherjee for 55 years, said, “What else other than love?” She added, in the report, that Mukherjee loved his Bengali staples - the aloo posto or jhinge posto and she would have loved to cook the same for him. “I would have loved to cook his favourite dishes myself, but my health didn’t allow that.
