Whoever slaughters a cow violates the law: U'khand Governor Aziz Qureshi

Nainital: Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi on Friday spoke against cow slaughter, saying that such a practice is in violation of law and an issue to which sentiments of crores of people are attached. Qureshi, who had taken the Narendra Modi government to the Supreme Court after he was asked to resign, also said that if any one from his community commits cow slaughter he would be ostracised. Ibnlive[/caption] “We, the Qureshi community, declare that cow is like a mother and sentiments of crores of people were attached to the issue,” he said at a public event here. “Whoever slaughters a cow violates the law,” the Governor said, adding that such a practice should be completely brought to an end. Chief Minister Harish Rawat when asked to comment on Qureshi’s remarks said these may be governor’s own views. The Supreme Court has taken up a first-of-its kind petition by Qureshi challenging the NDA government’s push to make him quit the post. It has sought the government’s views on Qureshi’s plea on whether the withdrawl of the President’s pleasure can be conveyed through a phone call from the Union Home Secretary. PTI
