Jaya Prada, a former Samajwadi party leader, along with Amar Singh, was expelled from the party in 2010 for indulging in activities inimical to its political interests and damaging its image. Four MLAs, Sandeep Agarwal, Madan Chauhan, Sarvesh Singh and Ashok Chandel, who supported them, were placed under suspension.
Amar Singh, in 2015, alleged that Azam Khan was behind the suspension of the duo. “Azam is close to Mulayam Singh Yadav and due to him me and Jaya Prada was sacked form SP. Such statements from him, will adversely affect party’s reputation,” Amar Singh had said in 2015 .
The animosity between Jaya Prada and Azam is not new. In 2009 , a year before she was expelled, Jaya Prada had alleged that the SP leader was circulating material to sully her image. “He (Azam Khan) is like my elder brother. But he is sullying my image by involving in cheap campaigning against me. His action is an insult to women,” Jaya Prada had alleged at the time. “This is not good. They want to demoralize woman’s pride by engaging in cheap campaigning,” the politician added further.
