Governor BL Joshi has sparked off a minor controversy by saying that stampedes like the one that took place at Allahabad station could take place whenever crores of people gather at a single location. “When crores of people gather at a place then mistakes happen,” he said after visiting victims at an Allahabad hospital. The Governor and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav made separate visits to a hospital where the injured from the stampede on 10 February were admitted for treatment. The government has instituted a probe into the incident and offered compensation to those deceased or injured.
