'We're a professional force, don't sit on setbacks': CDS Chauhan says Op Sindoor aimed to stop terror from Pak

India’s Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, speaking at an even in Pune on Tuesday (June 3) said that the Indian Armed Forces built on their capabilities following the Balakot and Uri strikes.

“Both nations [India and Pakistan] had tried to build different kinds of capabilities, so obviously there was an inherent amount of risk into this."

Alluding to the losses the Indian military suffered as it carried out Operation Sindoor to hit at terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Gen. Chauhan said, “As a professional forces we are not affected by setbacks and losses, we should be able to understand and rectify our mistakes,” adding, “We cannot sit back with setbacks.”

He also pointed to his earlier interviews given in Singapore last week, pointing out, “When I was asked about losses on our side, I said these are not important. The results and how you act are important. It would not be very correct to talk about losses,” CDS Gen Chauhan said.

In an interview with Bloomberg TV on Saturday, the General had confirmed that at least one Indian fighter jet was downed in response to a question about Pakistan’s claims that six Indian fighter jets were downed during Operation Sindoor.

Gen Chauhan said, “Pakistan’s claim of India having lost six fighter jets is absolutely wrong.”
