Police have begun investigation into the incident and have arrested three suspects so far, according to TV reports. News reports also said that the girl had gone missing on Wednesday. The incident bears a disturbing similarity to an earlier incident in Badaun in Uttar Pradesh where the bodies of two Dalit sisters had been found hanging from a tree after they had been gangraped and murdered. The two cousins, aged 14 and 15, went missing from their house on the night of 27 May and their bodies were found hanging from a tree in the village in Ushait area in Badaun the next day, sparking nationwide outrage.
