In Uttar Pradesh’ Amroha, a private school principal has expelled a nursery student after the five-year-old child allegedly brought non-vegetarian food to class.

The incident, which occurred on Teachers’ Day, has sparked controversy after its video which went viral showed a heated exchange between the principal and the student’s mother.

The footage reportedly shows the Hilton Convent School principal accusing the student of consistently bringing non-vegetarian food and making divisive religious statements.

“Your child says that he wants to convert everyone to Islam by making them eat non-vegetarian food,” the principal allegedly told the mother.

He further accused the student of wanting to destroy Hindu temples.

The mother responded by stating that her child has been complaining about religious conflicts in class for the past three months. “You are teaching this to him,” the principal replied.

In response, Amroha’s Basic Education Officer has formed a team of principals from three government schools to investigate the situation. The team is expected to submit its report within three days.

VP Singh, the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), in an interaction with Indian Express said, “The mother of the boy has lodged a complaint claiming her son was beaten up by the school principal and was termed a religious fundamentalist. She also claimed that the principal told her that he had struck off the boy’s name from the school register and that there was no need to send him to the school in the future. I have ordered a time-bound enquiry and will take action based on the report.”

Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Monica Kumari assured that “strict action” would be taken if the report finds the principal guilty.

The principal has dismissed the allegations as unfounded. “I did not beat the boy up and he was confined to the computer room under the supervision of a teacher. The boy damaged the temple within the school campus and offered biryani to his classmates, which was objected to by their parents. I had called a parent-teacher meeting on Wednesday but his mother blamed me,” the principal explained.
