Watch: A mouth watering journey through Ghatkopar's Khau Galli

Mumbai’s love for street food isn’t a secret, and if you’re wondering where to go to experience some authentic and delectable Mumbai-style street food, Ghatkopar’s khau galli is a must-visit.

For those of you who don’t understand Marathi, or are not acquainted with the Bambaiya culture, khau, in Marathi, means “a treat” and there are many khau gallis across Mumbai. They have been a part of Mumbai’s metropolitan culture since forever, with roadside carts and hole-in-the wall eateries that offer a gastronomic treat at a dirt cheap price.

Just two minutes away from the Ghatkopar East Station, the khau galli attracts heavy footfall from all over Mumbai and is packed from about 4.30 pm till midnight.

It offers an array of options ranging from dosa to pav bhaji to falooda, Ghatkopar’s khau galli, however, is not for someone who’s looking for non-vegetarian delicacies.

For that, we’d recommend Mohammad Ali Road, especially during Eid.

Ghatkopar is known for its Gujarati community. This is a group of people who is known for indulging in all kinds of food in a most carefree manner, and their love for cheese and butter is no secret either. Yummy street food laden with butter and cheese at the lowest prices is always a win-win!

Though khau galli is a vegetarians paradise, the delicacies are worth a shot, especially since they don’t burn a hole in your pocket!

Sai Swad Dosa

The dish to watch out for at this stall is definitely the Ginni Dosa.

The various kind of dosas here are flavoured with spices, herbs, cheese (lots of it), onion, capsicum, and served with green chutney and schezwan sauce. Up for offer are an assortment of almost 40 dosa “flavours” like paneer, Maggi, schezwan and even pasta.

​WTC Pasta

A branch of the WTC (World Trade Centre) pasta corner called Manoj Pasta, this tiny stall offers boiled corn, Maggi and pasta. Our special recommendations are the khichiya papad and macaroni pasta in pink sauce!

Pooja Gola This g_ola_ shop has been around for more than 20 years and is simply magic!

Hot Spot This little barbecue grill offers a perfect mix of vegetables and barbecue. At Hot Spot, you could try the tikkas, baby corn rolls and a lot more!

Sandwich Corner The owner claims his stall is more than 25 years old, and among the first few to set up shop in the galli. The best sellers here are the cheese topped sandwiches and we must say, they are totally worth it!
