'Shame on you, this is public money': Bulandshahr DM scolds officials for poor road construction

The Bulandshahr District Magistrate B Chandrakala in Uttar Pradesh gained instant fame on social media after a video which showed her scolding civic officials and contractors for sub-standard road construction went viral on the internet. You will go to jail for this!” Chandrakala shouted at an official, who just stood there sheepishly and had almost nothing to say. “You should be ashamed. This is public money,” she said. One of the three contractors who faced the DM’s temper is the brother of a Samajwadi Party member, according to this NDTV report . She also ordered civic body commissioner Pinki Garg to send a report of their shoddy work to the administration. “This money belongs to the people, not you. Commission-khori ki bhi had hoti hai! (Even bribery has a limit!)” she said. “Out of the 17 contracts given to you, work has not begun on 10 of them,” said Chandrakala. “Chup! Galti aap logon ki hai. (Shut up! The fault lies with you all.)” She also ordered all the tiles to be sent back to the company which sold them and said no more tiles would be bought from that company. She also told Garg, “It was written in the proposal that the construction would be done with new tiles. Are these new tiles?” “An FIR should be lodged against this kind of work. Otherwise, an FIR will be registered against all of you,” Chandrakala told the officials. “Have some shame. Morality has died in you,” she said. “Within two days, road construction with new tiles should begin here. Otherwise, you will be blacklisted,” Bulandshahr DM told another official. According to NDTV, Chandrakala has been transferred recently from Mathura, reportedly without any proper explanation.
