The mortal remains of Major Ashish Dhonchak, who lost his life in an anti-terror operation in Jammu’s Anantnag were taken to Haryana’s Panipat for last rites. Chants of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ by school students and locals reverberated in the street that was used to carry the mortal remains.

A resident of Panipat, Major Dhonchak is survived by his wife Jyoti and a five-year-old daughter named Vamika.

Before he was posted in Kashmir, Major Dhonchak was posted in Punjab’s Bathinda. He was also honoured with the Sena Medal last month. Along with Major Dhonchak, Colonel Manpreet Singh and DSP Humayun Bhat also died during the ambush. Yesterday, BJP’s youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) held an anti-Pakistan protest in Jammu over the deaths of the soldiers.
