Waqf board stops illegal sale of land in Hyderabad's Manikonda, chairman calls for inquiry into issuance of NOC

The Waqf board has allegedly stopped an illegal land sale of a four-acre piece of land in Hyderabad’s Manikonda, which belonged to the Hazrat Hussain Shah Vali Dargah. The no-objection certificate (NOC) for the land was issued in the name of the chief executive officer (CEO) of the Telangana Waqf board. However, the CEO, Shahnawaz Qasim, said that he did not issue any such NOC,  The Times of India reported. [caption id=“attachment_5791011” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Representational image. Reuters[/caption] According to the Deccan Chronicle, Qasim said the style and content of the letter did not match the pattern of the communication of Board. Following this, Waqf board chairman Mohammad Saleem ordered an inquiry into the issuance of the NOC. He told the newspaper that he would also cancel the NOC and take back the land. “We will also order a CID inquiry to bring out the truth. The no objection certificate was deemed to have been issued with the signature of the CEO. But the CEO told us that he did not sign any such NOC. The probe will reveal whether the signature was forged,” Saleem was quoted as saying. Saleem told The Times of India the land is part of some 1680 acres of land of the dargah of Hazrat Hussain Shah Vali, who supervised the construction of the historic Hussainsagar lake. The water body is also named after the saint-engineer of the Qutub Shahi period.
