Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday congratulated M Venkaiah Naidu on being elected the next vice-president of the country. In her congratulatory message to the vice-president-elect, she said his win marked the victory of the common people, whose struggle and aspirations he represented throughout his political life. AFP[/caption] Wishing him well for his tenure, Mehbooba hoped that as the chairman of the Rajya Sabha also, Naidu would take the proceedings of the House to new heights of propriety, consensus and respect for each other’s point of view. NDA nominee Naidu was on Saturday declared the winner in the vice-presidential poll. The former Union minister bagged 516 of the total of 771 votes cast, as against the 244 votes garnered by opposition candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
