VHP plans to plant holy plan in every Hindu home and build Panchavati in every village

Lucknow: On the lines of the mythological “Panchvati” garden mentioned in Ramayana, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad has decided to plant five trees in every village in the country and gift “Tulsi” saplings, considered sacred among Hindus, to every household of the community. “With the concept of an ideal home, VHP will carry out a programme between June and July during which it will donate a Tulsi plant to every Hindu house besides developing ‘Panchvati’ in every village,” VHP spokesman Sharad Sharma said on Monday. Reuters[/caption] Sharma said the programme would be carried out across the country ahead of monsoon so that the trees get ample water to grow. “The seers are of the opinion that Hindu society must give prominence to its religious belief and tradition. Therefore, five plants should be planted in every village and every house must have a Tulsi plant,” he said. Besides Tulsi, the five other plants that the VHP intends to plant include Banyan, Peepal, Gular, Pakad and Ashok. “This will not only benefit environment, but is also in consonance with our religious beliefs. Besides, it is a good way for the organisation to reach out to every village” he said, adding that all these plants have been mentioned in the mythological epic Ramayana. Sharma also stated that before this programme a ‘Ram Mahotsava’ would be organised across the country by the VHP. The VHP had already decided to organise, for the first time, a ‘Ram Mahotsava’, on the lines of Durga Puja, to “mobilise Hindus” for construction of a Ram temple. “We will celebrate Ram Mahotsava from 21 March or 22 March and it will continue till 1 April. This will be for the first time that such an event is being organised by the organisation,” Sharma, the VHP media incharge, said on Monday. This programme would be organised in every village in the country to make the society aware of Lord Ram, he said. He said Hindus have already been asked to take a resolve for construction of the temple, “But for the completion of that resolve they will be asked to take the pledge once again”. “We plan to reach 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh villages across the country. In Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand, we will make efforts to reach each and every village,” he said. The VHP media incharge said the organisation has also planned 600 ‘Hindu Sammelans’ across the country. PTI
