Unfortunate what happened, hope good sense prevails, says Jadavpur VC

Kolkata: With the Jadavpur University students adamant on carrying on their agitation, Vice-Chancellor Abhijit Chakrabarti today said that what had happened in the campus was “unfortunate” and hoped good sense would prevail. “It is unfortunate what has happened. Let good sense prevail among the students. Let them come for discussion. I hope all problems will be solved,” Chakrabarti told a TV channel here. Yesterday, the father of the girl, who was allegedly sexually harassed last month, dismissed any need for the VC to resign and said students should call off their agitation as the state has formed a probe committee. On the intervening night of September 16 and 17, the students had gheraoed the university’s VC, registrar and other members of the executive council demanding a fresh probe panel on alleged sexual harassment of a girl student. The VC had said he feared for his life and called the police which freed him in the early hours of September 17 and also arrested 35 protesting students. PTI
