North Bengal bound trains that originated from Sealdah and Howrah were terminated at various stations as heavy rains in sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal led to a deluge.

Trains to North Bengal from Sealdah, Howrah disrupted due to heavy rains

Jalpaiguri: North Bengal bound trains that originated from Sealdah and Howrah were terminated at various stations as heavy rains in sub-Himalayan districts of West Bengal led to a deluge. Due to flood situation in Northeast Frontier Railway jurisdiction, north Bengal bound trains originating from Sealdah and Howrah that were delaying en route had to be controlled, a statement issued by Eastern Railway said. Reuters[/caption] The statement said that Darjeeling Mail and Padatik Express were detained at Murarai and Chatra stations respectively. These trains had left Sealdah on Saturday. Similarly Bangalore Cantonment-Kamakhya Express via Howrah was detained at Bansloi Bridge station and Delhi-Dibrugarh Brahmaputra Mail was detained at Sahibganj station. Uttarbanga Express and Kanchankanya Express had been short terminated at Malda Town and returning from there to Sealdah as passenger special trains. These trains had left from Sealdah on Saturday. The Kanchanjungha Express scheduled to leave Sealdah station on Sunday has been cancelled. Teesta Torsa Express scheduled to leave from Sealdah station at 1.40 pm on Sunday was cancelled due to flood water running over the track in Katihar Division, a statement issued by CPRO Eastern Railway said. Instructions have been given to all DRMs to control the trains at relatively bigger stations and monitor the availability of adequate food, catering arrangement and drinking water in those stations for the convenience of the passengers, an Eastern Railway statement said. Instructions have also been issued to make proper security arrangements for passengers, the statement said. Very heavy to extremely heavy rains occurred at most places in Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar districts, while heavy to very heavy rain occurred at many places over Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts on Sunday.
