Malda: With the death of three more infants, the death toll from septicaemia reached 18 in Malda Medical College and Hospital in the past four days. AFP[/caption] “Three infants, aged within seven days, died in the hospital in the last 24 hours. They were admitted in a critical condition. The children were underweight, severely malnourished and suffering from breathing trouble,” Medical Superintendent and Vice-Principal M A Rashid said. He said that five infants died on the first day, seven on the second day, three on the third day and 3 more in the past 24 hours. The age of all the previous 15 dead infants was between one day and three months, he said. The newborns were brought from different parts of the district like Baishnabnagar, Harishchandrapur, Kaliachak, Ratua, Gajol and Katihar in Bihar. PTI
