The curious case of Bitti Mohanty: Top five developments

Bitti Mohanty, convicted for raping a German tourist in Alwar, managed to escape arrest for six years with a lot of meticulous planning. What got him caught was an anonymous handwritten letter to the bank where he worked, giving details about his real identity. The son of ex-Odisha DGP BB Mohanty was finally arrested by the Kerala police on Friday, after the the Bank of Travancore lodged an FIR against him, for forgery and impersonation. PTI[/caption] Here are the key developments in the case so far. * Bitti Mohanty, who is in Kerala police custody, will be taken back to Rajasthan by the Rajasthan police. According to television reports he will also go through a customary medical check up in a Jaipur hospital. * A Zee News report suggests that after investigation it was revealed that the anonymous letter was written by a woman colleague of Bitti, who was also his lover. * According to a report in the  Indian Express, Kannur SP Rahul R Nair said the Rajasthan police officer, who had arrested Mohanty for a German woman’s rape, has identified Rajan as Mohanty. Jaipur Additional Commissioner of Police Biju Joseph had also confirmed this. * While Bitti’s father BB Mohanty has been hiding from the media, his aunt, Kamini Patnaik, however, defended her nephew. “Bitti is innocent. Had the case involved any Indian woman, I would have believed because of Bitti’s age. But, I do not believe this case as they (Germans) have an open society,” Kamini said. * The Kerala police on Monday formed a 20-member Special Investigation Team to investigate and collect details about him.
