Flight operations at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport have been disrupted due to a technical glitch in Delhi’s Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports Air Traffic Control flight planning, the airport said in an advisory on Friday.
“Flight operations at Mumbai Airport have been affected by a technical issue impacting the AMSS at Delhi, which supports Air Traffic Control flight planning. The concerned authorities are actively working to resolve the issue at the earliest,” the airport said.
“As a result, airline operations may experience delays. Passengers are advised to contact their respective airlines for updates on flight status and revised schedules. We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience and cooperation,” it added.
The disruption at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport led to widespread chaos, with over 300 flights — both domestic and international — delayed. According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), controllers are currently processing flight plans manually after the system malfunctioned.
“Flight operations at Delhi Airport are experiencing delays due to a technical issue in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports Air Traffic Control data. Controllers are processing flight plans manually, leading to some delays. Technical teams are working to restore the system at the earliest,” the AAI said in a statement.
Sources told CNN-News18 that the glitch could be linked to a possible malware-induced overload in the automation software, though investigations are still underway. Major airlines including IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air confirmed delays in their operations at Delhi Airport.
