Tea, balms big hit on online NaMo store thanks to Modi wave

Ache din aane wale hain,” reads the tag-line on some Narendra Modi posters, and the same could well hold true for ‘ TheNaMo Store ’ that sells products that are branded with the NaMo mark such as tea, balms, diaries, USB drives, t-shirts, mugs and more. According to a Business Standard report, the store, which is run by a group of volunteers from the Take India Beyond Merchandising firm, has seen sales worth “a little over Rs 50 lakh.” The firm, which is not linked to the BJP but says it is a supporter of the party and its PM candidate, has also managed to create quite an offline presence as well. The report adds that “Rs 25 lakh has come from offline sales of 250g NaMo Tea which is priced at Rs 60 and 10g NaMo Balm which is worth Rs 24 each.” The balm incidentally has a tag-line called, “Dard anek, ilaj ek,” (multiple pains, a single solution). The cover pack of the balm has a picture of Narendra Modi on it. The website also recently launched a silver coin with the words ‘Namo Mantra’ written on it. The company also hopes to open a permanent brick-and-mortar store in India once there is a BJP government in power, according to the BS report. In the 20 days since we went offline, we have already done sales worth Rs 25 lakh for tea and balm alone,” one volunteer told BS on condition of anonymity. Previously LiveMint had reported that the first store is set to come up in Ahmedabad. “The NaMo Store will also be launching their own retail stores across different cities in India for wider reach in near future. The stores will be opening in major cities in India,” a team member had told Mint. The NaMo online store isn’t the only one cashing in on the Modi wave. A Modi run game , a 2048 version of Modi and a NaMo smartphone have also been launched. Whether or not Modi becomes PM, as a brand he has clearly proved successful given the number of people who have joined the NaMo bandwagon.
