Tamil Nadu to Punjab: How other states are helping J&K flood victims

With Jammu & Kashmir seeing the worst floods in decades and lakhs of people still stranded and desperate for help, state governments across the nation have stepped up efforts to pledge support and aid to the flood-ravaged valley. The latest to offer help are Jammu and Kashmir’s neighbours Punjab and Haryana.

Punjab’s Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has sent a three-member team to survey the damage in the flood-affected areas and has already airlifted 60 qunitals of food essentials, reported TOI . Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has directed SPGC and religious organisations to open community kitchens across the th Valley and provide to food to flood-afffected.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also pledged aid and his government will send 50,000 blankets and other relief materials for the flood-affected people of J&K, reported Outlook .

Following is a list of other states that have joined the relief operations:

Assam The Assam Government has deputed the Additional Director General of Police (Vigilance and Anti Corruption) on Tuesday to Jammu and Kashmir to liaise with the state government in order to render necessary assistance to the people of Assam stranded there. ADGP Rajkumar Chandranathan will be camping at Srinagar and will tie up with the Jammu and Kashmir Government for taking necessary action for rendering assistance, an official statement said.

Odisha Odisha Government on Tuesday announced Rs 5 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for Jammu and Kashmir and also said team of 40 trained personnel of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) is ready with all required rescue equipment, boats and submersible pumps to undertake rescue and relief operations in affected areas.

“The Government of Odisha has extended an assistance of Rs five crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for relief and restoration works in the flood hit areas of Jammu and Kashmir,” a release from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s office said.

Maharashtra Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday announced an aid of Rs 10 crore from the CM’s Relief Fund and the state Congress chipped in with a consignment of 20 rubber and motorized fibre boats to help the flood relief operations in the deluged state. Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Manikrao Thakre and others dispatched the consignment by flight to Srinagar on Tuesday morning.

Bihar Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Tuesday announced Rs 10 crore for relief works for the flood-affected people in Jammu and Kashmir, besides supply of dry ration and boats.

UP The Akhilesh Yadav government has announced an assistance of Rs 20 crore to flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir, and expressed solidarity with flood-affected people in the hour of crisis.
