Son Shiv consigns Sunanda to flames in New Delhi

New Delhi: Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor, was today consigned to flames at the Lodhi Road crematorium in the national capital amid the presence of a large media contingent, friends and relatives. Pushkar passed away on Friday evening amid mysterious circumstances in a high-end Delhi hotel two days after a hostile Twitter spat with a Lahore-based woman journalist suspecting an alleged extra-marital affair with her minister husband. PTI[/caption] Tharoor, who wore a stoic look throughout the day, was present at the funeral with moist eyes while Shiv Menon, Pushkar’s son from her first marriage, performed the rituals required during a Hindu cremation. Although Congress leaders from Kerala including Union minister AK Antony, Vayalar Ravi, PJ Kurien visited Tharoor’s residence to pay their last respects to the departed soul, not many of his colleagues were seen at the crematorium. The mystery around the death of Sunanda Pushkar still remains shrouded in the same as doctors responsible for the autopsy report did not rule out chance of a foul play. According to sources, overdose of medicine can also be a possible cause of death. The detailed report from the AIIMS panel will take a couple of more days. Sources in the Delhi Police had claimed that Tharoor will be in all likelihood questioned soon after the cremation was over but a confirmation to this effect is yet to be received. Although during the course of the funeral ceremony, the Union minister could regain his composure he however preferred to stay away from the media.
