A little over a week after the death of IPS officer Narendra Kumar, who died while trying to stop a vehicle that was part of the local mining mafia, his wife gave birth to a baby boy.

Kumar’s wife, IAS officer Madhurani Tewatia, delivered a baby boy at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital in Delhi yesterday.

“She has delivered a baby boy and is recuperating at the hospital nursing home. She delivered through a Caesarean section. Both mother and baby are doing fine,” Dr TS Sindhu of the hospital told the Indian Express .

Tewatia was on maternity leave when her husband was killed on 8 March in the Banmore area of Madhya Pradesh while trying to stop a tractor that was carrying stones that were mined illegally.

A CBI inquiry has been ordered into the IPS official’s death and it is being investigated if he was targetted due to the action he had taken against the illegal mining industry.

“It is an emotional moment for us. We have been trying to find our lost son in the baby boy. It is too early to say but we may name the boy after his father,” Rajpal Singh, Kumar’s uncle said.
