Singing a different tune: Abhijeet lands in another row over abusive Twitter comments

Singer Abhijeet has frequently been in the news in recent times — for reasons that are entirely non-musical. On Sunday, the singer was caught in the eye of a storm again over a series of tweets spewing religious venom.

The Mumbai police are looking into the tweets put out by Abhijeet, who commented on the murder of Infosys software S Swathi, a report by The Indian Express said. He claimed that the murder was a case of 'love jihad.'

Subsequently, Abhijeet posted a number of abusive tweets against journalist Swati Chaturvedi, after which the latter complained to the Mumbai police.

Although Abhijeet deleted the tweets in which he made the reference to love jihad, his Twitter rant continued, egged on by some of his supporters.

Clearly, it seems the yesteryear singer has found a new profession in rabble-rousing. For all we know, an appointment to head a high-profile institution may be on the cards for him.
