New Delhi: Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal today skipped the meeting of IIT Council convened by him to discuss the proposed common entrance test after opposition from some of the premier engineering institutions. [caption id=“attachment_359214” align=“alignleft” width=“380” caption=“Reuters”] [/caption] PTI reported that Sibal was not present as he wanted to show that the IITs are autonomous and there is no government interference. Sibal, who is also the IIT Council Chairperson, instead sent a written statement to Council. He will address a press conference at 5:30 pm on the common entrance exam. Several IITs are opposing the proposed common entrance test, which he mooted. It merges IIT Joint Entrance Exam (IIT-JEE) with the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and includes a fixed weightage for school board exams. Agencies
