Show some spine: Bodo body tells Assam Police

Mumbai: Blaming Assam Police for being spineless in the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts, the All Bodo Students Union today said that security measures should not be cosmetic and criminals should not allowed to go scot-free under political pressure. “We are not observing any spine in police administration in BTAD area in last couple of years. The administration should not cosmetically display the legal activity for readymade political answers. It must be used for the protection of law as well as human right. Criminal should not be categorically exempted under political pressure,” ABSU president Pramod Boro said in a statement.[caption id=“attachment_526356” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/bodocamp2_PTI3801.jpg "bodocamp2_PTI380") Endless misery. PTI[/caption] Demanding for sufficient deployment of security forces in Assam’s violence-hit Kokrajhar district, Boro also appealed for calm and immediate stop in killings. “Killing and counter killing will neither protect our land nor life and property. It will create hatred among us. We have to protect our land legally,” the ABSU chief said. Blaming the government for the current wave of violence, Boro demanded that the prepetrators be dealt with firmly. “The government has to accept the failure as guardian. They have no right to claim success as the innocent people are getting killed. So they need to review all the steps they have taken that has failed to bring back peace and normalcy,” he said. The ABSU chief also voiced his concern over the random picking up of innocent people on the pretext of being suspects. “No innocent should be harassed or arrested to coat the failure to book the real culprit. This kind of activity of the administration save the real culprits and make the public lost faith on the administration,” he said. The Bodo leader also called for interaction between the government agencies and the civil society so that a practical solution can be reached upon to deal with the recurring wave of violence in the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts. “The government should face the civil society and community organisations in the conflict affected regions and also should take them in confidence to understand the real menace and causes for the repetition of conflicts,” Boro said.
