On one hand, there are people who blacken the face of a person who organised an event for a Pakistani national. On the other hand, there are people who go out of their way to help a person, irrespective of which country that person belongs to. IBNLive[/caption] At a time when Shiv Sena activists blackened the face of Sudheendra Kulkarni for organising a book launch for former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri, an Indian NGO raised around Rs 13 lakh to finance the treatment of a Pakistani girl suffering from a serious disease. Saba Tariq Ahmed, a 15-year-old girl from Karachi, suffering from Wilson’s disease (a disorder in which there is poisonous accumulation of copper in the body), was helped by an Indian NGO called Bluebells Community, according to a report in
The Times of India. In fact, this is not even the first time that the NGO helped Saba. During April-May, the NGO raised Rs 7 lakh from people in Mumbai to help her, said the report. But after Saba’s condition continued to deteriorate, the NGO started a crowd-funding campaign over the Independence Day weekend. As a result, Rs 13 lakh was raised from 130 contributors, reported
Huffington Post. And after about 49 days of treatment, Saba headed back home on Monday with assurances of a lifelong and free supply of medicines from a London-based NGO. “Nazia (Saba’s mother) said she had been warned that things would not be smooth in India, and she was happy that her fears did not come true. She said Mumbai had been full of warmth and happiness for her and her daughter,” Huffington Post quoted Dr Aabha Nagral of Jaslok hospital as saying.
