Sheena Bora murder: Indrani, ex-husband drove with body seated between them, say cops

There’s never a shortage of lurid details when it comes to the Sheena Bora case in which former INX Media chief Indrani Mukerjea and her former husband Sanjeev Kumar. The latest is the fact that the duo may have kept the body between them as they drove from Mumbai to Raigad in order to prevent drawing attention to themselves.

After they allegedly abducted Sheena from Linking Road in suburban Bandra, Indrani and Sanjeev reportedly strangled her and then kept her in a seated position while they drove to the Worli residence of Indrani, according to a Times of India report .

However,  an Indian Express report said that after killing Sheena, the duo along with driver Shyam Rai packed the body into a suitcase and drove to Indrani’s residence where they put it into the rear seat in a sitting position. An earlier report had said that Indrani and Sanjeev had planned to dispose of the body on the night of the murder itself, but had decided against it after spotting a police checkpoint.

According to the reports, Rai stayed behind to watch over the body while Indrani and Sanjeev went to their respective residences.

The next day they allegedly drove from Mumbai to neighbouring Raigad district with Sheena seated between them and Indrani allegedly even put her daughter’s head on her shoulder to give the impression that she was asleep in case they were stopped during police checking. They had allegedly realised that even if the police checked the boot of the car at a checkpoint they were unlikely to ask the passengers to step out.

After reaching the designated spot in Raigad where they had decided to get rid of the body, the trio allegedly managed to push the body down a ravine, and followed it with a suitcase and some petrol. They then allegedly managed to stuff the body into the suitcase, poured petrol on it and then set it on fire, said the reports.

Sanjeev however, has claimed that he had come to Mumbai in order to meet with his daughter, who has been legally adopted by Indrani’s husband Peter Mukerjea. He had reportedly claimed that he had waited for Indrani’s call to meet his daughter on the night that Sheena was murdered. He said that he had allegedly gone with Indrani to Raigad and had fallen asleep in the car during the journey.
