Shashi on Sunanda: 'A feisty woman' who 'completed me'

A memorial service , held for Sunanda Pushkar at the Lodhi Estate residence of Union Minister Shashi Tharoor in Delhi, was attended by celebrities, diplomats and politicians who offered condolences. PTI image[/caption] An emotional Tharoor described his wife as a “feisty woman” who spoke her mind when others wouldn’t speak frankly. According to a report in the Times of India, their son, Shiv Menon performed a puja at a small temple in the family’s garden. “She was an angel. She didn’t belong here; she is in a cleaner place now and looking upon us with a smile. She was really an angel,” Shiv said according to the news report. “She loved this garden. Sunanda used to organize parties here—Bollywood dance sessions. She lovingly constructed the temple in this garden. Sunanda was the light of our lives, luminous from within. She completed me. Today I feel a sense of incompleteness,” said Tharoor in his first public response to the tragic demise of his wife. According to media reports, Delhi Police have said that Tharoor has been given a clean chit in his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death probe. It was issued based on the testimony of a witness who saw Pushkar alive two hours after Tharoor  left the five-star hotel in Delhi where she found dead. One day before her death, Sunanda Pushkar went on a now infamous Twitter rant, using Tharoor’s Twitter account to broadcast messages that Pakistani columnist Mehr Tarar had purportedly sent the union minister, professing intense feelings for him. Pushkar later went on to call Tarar an ISI agent and accused her of hacking into her computer, and also trying to break her marriage. She added that Taroor ‘being a man’ had been ‘flattered’ by the attention. However, emails since leaked to Headlines Today suggest that there was no affair, though Tarar’s relationship with Tharoor troubled Sunanda, who asked him to break all contact with the journalist. The actual circumstance of Sunanda’s death remain a source of speculation with the preliminary autopsy report suggesting the likelihood of an overdose.
