Sexual harassment case: Intern rubbishes Justice Ganguly's claims

While former Justice AK Ganguly had accused the Supreme Court of not addressing him in an appropriate manner and has said that his side of the story was not given a fair hearing, the law intern who has brought allegations of sexual harassment against him has rubbished his claims. Ganguly has written to the Chief Justice of India alleging that the incident was a deliberate effort to malign him. In response, Ganguly’s former intern and the complainant has written another blog post on the Journal of Indian Law and Society , clarifying the intent behind bringing this issue to light. She said that the reason she decided to narrate the incident in a blog post was because she didn’t have too many options open before her to pursue the matter through law. She explains that after she returned to her college - NUJS, Kolkata - after the internship, she realised that there was no policy in place in the university which will help a student fight an incident of sexual harassment which took place during an internship. I sought confidentiality of proceedings keeping in mind the gravity of the situation, as well as the privacy of everyone involved,” she says in the blog. She then goes on to draw up a timeline of the events following the publication of the blog and explains why she authorised Indira Jaising to make her full statement to the Supreme Court’s three-judge committee public. She says, “Even after the operative portion of the report of the Committee, was made public, many eminent citizens and legal luminaries continued to deride the Committee’s findings, and malign me. Hence, I found it necessary to clarify the details of my statement to preserve my own dignity as well as that of the Supreme Court. Therefore, I authorized Ms Indira Jaising, the Additional Solicitor General of India to make my statement public.” She finally ends her blog by urging people to respect her autonomy instead of questioning her intent behind not filing a police complaint right away. Expressing that she will take the appropriate steps at an appropriate time, she signs off with her own name. You can read her latest blog post here .
