Setback for BRS? Congress crosses halfway mark in Telangana election result trends

As the Telangana vote count advances, the official data from the Election Commission of India till afternoon showed Congress crossing the majority mark of 60 with over 61-seats lead while the BRS, the party in power since 10 years trailing second at 36-seat lead followed by the BJP at 10-seat lead, and the CPI with one seat lead. With KCR serving as its chief minister, BRS has ruled the Telangana State since its establishment in 2014. After the early trends showed victory for Congres, the Congress supporters in Hyderabad were observed waving banners and bursting off firecrackers outside the home of state party chief Revanth Reddy. After the first round of counting, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was more than 2,000 votes behind state Congress president A Revanth Reddy from Kamareddy. While Revanth Reddy, the chief of the State Congress, was observed leading from his Kodangal seat. According to the results of the first round of counting, other prominent contenders from Congress like Gaddam Vinod was leading from Bellampalli, and Murali Naik Bhukya was leading from Mahabubabad. BJP MP K Laxman discussed the trends, saying that “people in Telangana were wanting a change.” The three main issues that affected people were appeasement politics, dynasty politics, and BRS corruption. Congress is leading in a number of areas according to the first count. However, I think the BJP will be significant." While applauding the Congress for taking an early lead in Telangana, BRS MP K. Keshava Rao stated that the party is fighting a solitary battle and that the BJP and the AIMIM parties will undoubtedly assist BRS if necessary. The Congress will be watching the Telangana election results closely as it prepares for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Gaining ground in Telangana and Karnataka would strengthen its position in the South. As the counting moves forward, the fate of 2,290 candidates from 109 parties—including the national and regional parties—will become apparent in Telangana. In total 3.17 crore voters were eligible to cast ballots in order to choose representatives for a 119-member Assembly. Voting in Telangana took place on November 30.
