School kids land in hospital after teacher makes them stand shirtless in the sun

In a shocking incident of corporal punishment in Andhra Pradesh, two students were hospitalised after they were made to kneel in the sun, shirtless for three hours for not doing their homework. The New Indian Express reported that, “Teacher Anil Kumar Raja of Mandal Parishad Primary School at Maradapalem village in Bheemili lost his cool as the students did not do their homework. The victims, Surya Teja of class IV and Dilip Kumar of class V are siblings. It is said that the boys suffered dehydration and collapsed after standing under the sweltering sun.” [caption id=“attachment_2161115” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Representational image. AFP[/caption] According to reports the father of the boys was passing the school and noticed the two boys who were punished and even expressed his displeasure with the teacher. According to The Hindu, “The parents approached the management and Mandal Education Officer Sai Babu. It is learnt that the matter was solved, after the MEO had reprimanded the teacher.” The furious father also lodged a complaint against the incident with the village ward member and the sarpanch. While the teachers have been pulled up for their behaviour, reports suggest that it was the boys’ parents who had allegedly asked the teachers to punish them. The New Indian Express reports, “When contacted, Bheemili police said that they haven’t received any complaint and no police case has been registered. However, sources at the school blamed the parents for telling the teachers to “discipline” their children, as the kids were poor in academics.”
