Three days after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed three FIRs in connection with the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh, the Supreme Court will on Thursday hear a plea demanding that the agency also probe seat allotments in private colleges. The plea has been filed by whistleblower Anand Rai, CNN-IBN reported on Thursday. [caption id=“attachment_2334262” align=“alignleft” width=“380” class=" “] Representational image. Vyapam website[/caption] The two FIRs already registered by the agency relate to alleged fraud in the Pre-Medical Test, 2010 and a Pre-PG examination in 2011. The CBI has also begun a probe into the deaths of five persons said to be associated with the fraud, PTI has reported. In his petition, Rai is reported to have said that the investigation cannot be properly monitored by the state government, and that among the beneficiaries are children of judges and investigating officials. The CBI began investigations on 13 July pursuant to an order of the Supreme Court. The matter hit the national headlines after multiple deaths of people linked to the controversy came to the fore. Anand Rai was one of the persons who uncovered the alleged scam by filing a petition in a court in July 2013. He got wind of the fraud when he himself appeared for the exams as a medical student in 2005. He made several complaints to authorities, and moved court after they went unheeded.
