Sasikala granted parole to visit ailing husband in Chennai, but asked to stay away from party activities, media

Jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala walked out of a Bengaluru jail on Friday after being granted parole, and will meet her husband M Natarajan, who underwent critical surgery on Thursday in Chennai. Sasikala has been given a five-day parole and has been asked to surrender before 6 pm on 12 October.

Her parole comes with stringent conditions. When in Chennai, she cannot stay at Poes Garden, the residence of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa. She has been instructed to stay at her sister-in-law Ilavarasi’s house because it’s this address that’s mentioned on Sasikala’s application. Furthermore, her movements would have to be restricted to visiting the hospital where her husband is recuperating. She isn’t permitted to entertain any visitors, nor is she allowed to indulge in any party-related activitiy. Sasikala has also been asked to stay away from the media, both print and electronic

Sasikala had applied for a 15-day parole  on Monday to be with her ailing husband, who had been suffering from critical kidney and liver failures. He had been on the organ transplant waiting list since April and had multiple organ transplants after a donor became available. Prison authorities had said their legal team would “consider” her application, Parappana Agrahara Prison Superintendent PS Ramesh was quoted as saying by PTI. Sasikala has been in jail since February after the Supreme Court upheld her conviction by a special court in a disproportionate assets case. Along with Sasikala, her relatives Ilavarasi and VN Sudhakaran are also serving four-year jail terms. Meanwhile, Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dhinakaran arrived in Bengaluru on Friday with a few supporters to complete her parole formalities. With inputs from PTI
