Sabarimala violence: 9,489 of 10,561 accused of inciting violence are from Sangh Parivar, Pinarayi Vijayan tells Kerala Governor in report

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday submitted a report to state governor P Sathasivam on the ongoing Sabarimala row, saying that of the 10,561 accused of inciting violence in the state, 9,489 of them belong to the Sangh Parivar. News18[/caption] The report detailed the instances of violence that have erupted across Kerala, and said that the state suffered a loss of Rs 2.3 crore during the 3 January hartal alone because of Sangh groups’ actions, CNN News18 reported. The report also stated that in the violence around Sabarimala and other places when the temple was opened, police registered 2,012 cases. According to the report submitted by Vijayan, “When the temple was opened, initially about 30 women were stopped by protesters of which five were women journalists. This is a violation of the Supreme Court order. About 17 media personnel were injured while covering the protests and 25 people have been arrested in seven police stations across the state in relation with this.” The document submitted to Sathasivam also stated that there is a conspiracy to create communal tension, a report from  News18 said. The news channel said that pictures that tried to promote enmity between different groups, as well as information circulated on social media, were also submitted. Kerala has witnessed violent outbreaks ever since the 28 September Supreme Court verdict, which allows women between the ages of 10 and 50 to enter the Sabarimala shrine. Tensions rose further after two women in their forties, Bindu and Kanaka Durga, offered prayers at the temple on the intervening night of 1 and 2 January. Protests subsequently broke out in the state , with Hindu groups calling for the 3 January hartal. BJP and CPM workers also clashed over the issue, with homes of both parties' leaders being attacked . Bindu and Kanaka Durga are currently in hiding after threats by hard-line Hindu groups. The women — speaking in an undisclosed location on the outskirts of Kochi — say they have since faced threats from protesters, but that they trusted the authorities to keep them safe and plan to return home next week. “I always say that I trust the police personnel, the state government of Kerala and also our democratic society of Kerala,” Bindu said.
