RTI activist commits suicide in Pimpri, NCP leader named in suicide note

A Right to Information activist in suburban Pune committed suicide on Tuesday, leaving behind a suicide note naming, among others, a senior NCP politician and an IPS officer. [caption id=“attachment_1076663” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] Representational image.[/caption] According to reports, Vilas Baravkar was found hanging in his residence in Pimpri-Chinchwad. He was reportedly working on issues related to illegal constructions and the collusion of politicians and policemen in permitting unauthorised construction activity. Baravkar reportedly left a suicide note written on stamp paper. The note reportedly names a senior politician of the Nationalist Congress Party and a senior Indian Police Service officer. The two are among 50 others named in the suicide note.
