 "'This is the final time': Bengal CM Mamata warns protesting doctors, calls them for talks at her residence today")
The West Bengal government on Monday has extended “final” invite to the junior doctors protesting in Kolkata for a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at 5 pm at her residence in Kalighat.
The mail for the meeting to the protesting doctors, demanding justice for a 31-year-old trainee doctor who was raped and murdered on August 9 at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, has been sent by Chief secretary Manoj Pant.
‘Discussion with an open mind’
In the letter, Bengal’s chief secretary urged the doctors to meet the chief minister at her residence for a “discussion with an open mind”.
“This is the fifth and final time we are reaching out to you for a meeting between the Honourable Chief Minister and your delegates. In line with our discussion from the day before, we are once again inviting you to a meeting with the Honourable Chief Minister at her Kalighat residence for a discussion with an open mind,” the letter read.
‘No live streaming or videography of meeting’
In the letter, the chief secretary further said, “… as mutually agreed and as per your statement to the media day before, there will be no live streaming or videography of the meeting, given that the matter is sub judice in the highest court of the country.”

More Shorts“Instead, the minutes of the meeting will be recorded and signed by both parties,” the letter further stated.
The chief secretary further requested that the same delegation present during the last discussions to arrive at the CM’s Kalighat residence by 4:45 pm on September 16.
“We look forward to your positive response and a productive and fruitful discussion,” the letter further said
However, as per reports, the protesting junior doctors are holding a general body meeting following which they take a decision on whether to accept the invitation for talks with the CM or not.
Why Bengal govt’s earlier attempts for talks failed
The earlier attempts of talks between the junior doctors and CM Banerjee had failed due to disagreements over live streaming of the meetings and the number of attending representatives.
Demands of doctors protesting in Kolkata
The junior doctors in Kolkata continued their sit-in outside Swasthya Bhawan, the headquarters of the State Health department, for the eight straight day and the cease work for the 36th consecutive day and vowed to continue till their demands for the removal of Kolkata Police Commissioner and senior state health officials are met.
