Station closure extended as security tightened

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), which had been issuing daily updates, took to X on Saturday and announced that ‘Gate number 2 & 3 at Lal Quila Metro Station are now open for commuters’,

DMRC confirmed on Thursday, November 13, that the station will remain shut until further notice for security reasons. Entry and exit have been suspended, and services will stay halted until clearance is provided by the relevant security agencies.

“The Lal Quila Metro Station will remain closed till further notice due to security reasons. All other metro stations and lines are functioning as per schedule,” the DMRC said in an official statement.

Located on the Violet Line, the station offers access to landmarks such as Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Chandni Chowk. Its temporary closure is expected to affect regular commuters and tourists travelling through Old Delhi, particularly during peak hours and weekends.

Security has been strengthened around Red Fort, with additional personnel deployed and intensified checks at nearby stations. Officials described the measures as precautionary, aimed at ensuring the safety of passengers and the public. As the investigation into the blast continues, commuters have been advised to monitor DMRC updates and use alternative stations, including Jama Masjid, Delhi Gate and Kashmere Gate, which remain operational.
